TIPS
For parents
- The sun is fierce in the mountains so all children should wear helmets, uv sunglasses or goggles, sun cream with a minimum spf 30.
- Lessons over 2 hours will have a break so please provide 5€ pocket money for a drink and maybe put a snack in their pocket.
- Weather can change very fast, so ALWAYS bring warm clothes and waterproof gloves.
- Make sure children carry their parent’s mobile number.
When you book lessons with us this automatically gives us the doctor the right to treat your child in the unlikely case of an accident, if you aren’t contactable.
- Children can be tearful when leaving their parents, but soon cheer up once you are out of sight. For this reason it is best for parents not to follow their children’s groups. Don’t worry they are in safe hands!
- It often takes a few holidays to earn the next medal up, it doesn’t mean they haven’t progressed, but sometimes there is a big jump in standards.
For new skiers and boarders
- As beginners NEVER NEVER accept the kind of offer of your more experienced friends/partner to teach you, even if they are great skiers/boarders. Doing and teaching are very different things and it will only lead to frayed tempers, fall outs and even in the worst cases divorce!
- Skiing and boarding are both very physical activities getting reasonably fit before you come will help enormously. See our fitness tips.
- You don’t have to spend a fortune on new kit but the essentials are waterproof trousers and jacket, a hat, warm waterproof gloves and good sunglasses or goggles. Underneath layers are better than chunky clothes. Try to avoid cotton as a base layer as it keeps moisture trapped next to the skin and can lead to feeling cold.
- For your first few times it is best to hire skis or boards and boots in resort than buy. Buying boots once you are level 3 is worthwhile if you plan on skiing more than 1 week a year. We would recommend buying in resort where the choice is greater and the prices lower than the UK. You can always go back and have them refitted during the course of the week if you have less than complete comfort.
- Night life in resort tends to be pretty relaxed apart from in the most chic hotels so pack casual rather than dressy with warm boots or shoes with a good tread for those sledging parties and strolls around the snowy roads.
- Don’t underestimate the power of the sun reflected on snow even if you are dark skinned always wear at least SPF 30 sun cream even on cloudy days. Equally the weather can change so always carry a hat.
- Carry the number of your chalet or rep with you when out and about.
- Always carry your insurance details with you and preferably take out the Carte Neige that is offered for a few euros with the liftpass as it will save a lot of hassle in paying and reclaiming if anything happens to you on the slopes.
- For boarders the first few days are the worst so wrist guards and helmets are highly recommended. Knee pads and padded shorts may not do much for your figure but you’ll soon learn to love them.
